Yes, the Open Directory Project is free, and yes, you can submit much more quickly. But the problem is there's no guarantee that your site will be listed. I've seen sites get into the Open Directory Project within a week or two of submission, and I've seen others that waited months without ever getting in. In addition, the submission forms sometimes don't seem to work! But don't give up. As I mentioned earlier on that, the Open Directory Project is very important. Here's how to submit:
1. Read the editor's guidelines at dmoz.org/guidelines/describing. html. If you know what guidelines the editors use, you may be able to avoid problems. It's hard to get into the directory, so you might as well give yourself the best chance of getting in.
2. Go to www.dmoz.org. The Open Directory Project home page appears.
3. Find a suitable category for your site.
4. Click the Suggest URL link at the top of the page.
5. Follow the (fairly simple) directions. Submitting to the Open Directory Project is much easier than doing so to Yahoo! Directory.
You simply enter your home page's URL, a short title, a 25-30- word description for the site, and your e-mail address. That's it. Then you wait.
But understand that the editors at DMOZ don't care about your site, they care about the directory; in fact, read the DMOZ forums at www.resource-zone. com and you'll find that the attitude tends to be "tells us about your site, then go away and forget about it."
There are all sorts of factors working against you:
- There are 8,000 editors managing over 700,000 categories.
- Many small directories may only be reviewed by an editor every six months . . . or far less frequently.
The editors regard a six-month wait, or longer, not particularly excessive.
- In some cases editors may even ignore submissions. As one editor explained, "there is no obligation to review them in any order nor is there a requirement to review them as a priority . . . some editors find it more productive to seek out sites on their own and rarely visit the suggested sites."

HTML Tags and SEO
The <Title> tag is the most important part of the page. It is the tag that visitors see in search results, and it should contain your targeted keywords. The title tag can make your page rank or make it disappear from search results. Use this format for web page title tags:
Keywords | Website Name or Brand
It's okay to include only your keywords without the site name, especially if you aren't branding using other Internet marketing methods.
Your <h1> tag is very important. As with the web page title, you should include your targeted keywords in this tag.
Your <h2> tag is next in importance. You should put keyword variations in this tag It's okay to be more natural here.
Your <h3> is less important, but still very useful. Promote keyword variations or subheadings using the H3 tag. You can relax a bit with this one and mention keywords only once in a while.
Now that we've talked about the title tags, let's briefly touch on links so you can see one aspect of why getting the keywords in your title tag is important. An incoming link to your pages is typically formed like so:
Link: <a href ="http://www.site.com/page.htm" title="keyword">anchor text keywords</a>
It's very important to include targeted keywords in anchor text in inbound links. You should also use targeted keywords in internal links, including navigation. The search engines take strong notice of keywords in these positions.
This is true for links that are followed. But what about links that are designated nofollow? Many blogs and other sites make any links in comments automatically nofollow.

ALT tags are designed for blind people. Alt tags should describe images, buttons, navigation and other site elements to make browsing easier for those who can't see. Some people stuff their keywords into ALT tags, in hopes of ranking better in search results. This doesn't work. If spotted, you'll be punished.
On top of being ineffective, it's a real hassle for blind people who have to listen to the BS webmasters stuff into these tags to manipulate search engines. Use alt tags for image descriptions, and don't worry about the keywords.
Comment Spam
There are several types of comment spam.
One type uses robots to put in generic BS comments and links back to their owner's site in hopes of getting more valuable inbound links. Google discovered this and doesn't count comment links anymore. Bloggers also use the nofollow tag, so it doesn't matter if there are links in comments.
Another way to spam comments is to leave generic comments like "I did an article about this too, come check it out" in hopes of driving traffic and subscriptions.
Blog comments are designed for discussion, so saying something useful without intent to get something back plays a lot better in the long term. You get respect and eventually the blogger becomes more interested in you. Then you get your link.
Forum Spam
Forum spam involves leaving forum messages disguised as editorials, but are nothing more than ads for a website.
This type of spam looks really nasty and irritates all forum users. Don't do it. If you want to drive visitors from forums, participate in discussions, offer advice and help everyone. You will gain respect and people will visit your site from the signature. This time however, instead of saying "who the hell is that guy?!" they will land on the home page wit the thought of "that guy is good, let's see what he's built here."
Reliance on Meta Tags
Meta tag's days are not over. Keyword meta tags do work. I would spend more than just a few minutes on keyword meta tags. The description meta tag, is very useful. It is the description that shows in search results, so make sure there are clear calls to action.

You've probably seen those one-vote articles sitting in no-man's-land with headlines like "New marketing methods" and "Super interactive website www.spamsite.com" Those are attempts by marketers to get diggs, reddits and other types of votes. How to be the world's WORST Notary / Signing Agent
Never write things down - rely on your good memory. Book EVERY call that you get and go to the one that pays the most. Use the same stamp for life - after you cut off the "99" from the date then cut off the "19" and just write in the 2000 year. Never clean your stamp. Dress shabby - looking poor might get you a tip. Arrive late - they will appreciate you more when you finally show. Ignore all rules - backdate, fax notarizations, loan out your stamp and seal when you are on vacation - for a commission of course. Curse out the loan officer when the docs are late or over 50 pages. Shrink all e-docs to cheaper letter paper - legal paper costs too much anyway. Ship completed signings only on Saturday - it's easier to find parking.
Bait and Switch all "signing companies" demanding double the agreed fee - save this demand till an hour before scheduled time. Eat lots of beans and garlic - borrowers sign quickly in a flatulent environment. Charge extra for using your embosser - after all it's extra work. Never renew your commission - just update the stamp. Never check ID - nobody really gives a hoot who signed it as long as it's not blank. Retain the signature page of the mortgage till the title company pays you. If your check doesn't arrive promptly, sue the borrower - after all it's their signatures you notarized. Pirate other notaries web sites - imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Send phony invoices to lots of Title Companies and signing agencies - collect what they did not pay other notaries.
You're entitled to give opinions about the interest rate and any aspect of the loan - be colorful in your comments.
Bring your lunch to the job - it shows you have good time management skills. Have the affiant sign in day glow green ink - legal docs need a bit of color. Always tell the borrower what you think they want to hear - promise anything to get them to sign quicker.
Put your stamp in the MIDDLE of the page - show them who's important. Never give the borrower a copy - most can't or won't read it anyway - and paper is expensive. Make a copy of the return FedEx/UPS airbill and use it to send your invoice if not paid in one week. When the borrower's apartment/home is a DUMP - it's OK to tell them so. Park on the borrower's lawn so you won't be blocked in on their driveway. Any room without a No Smoking sign is your invitation to light up. If the borrower forgot to make a copy of their drivers' license just slip the original into the package when they are not looking. Make any changes to the documents that will get the borrower to sign - after all you are a public official with authority. A few drinks can help steady your hand. Off color, sexist and racist jokes show self confidence and professional ability. Never read signing instructions - who are they to boss you around? Keep phone charges down by calling the borrower collect. Learn to shortchange - clients usually have their mind on the documents. Never go alone - bring friends to help create a festive environment. Answer all "legal" questions with your best guess - it makes you appear very wise and lets you bill the borrower directly for your legal opinions. I hate to share this, but I love watching infomercials. And I've ordered more than once from them! Everything from weight loss products to cell phone accessory's.
When pressed, my friends admit the same. If you sniff around most people's homes, you'll find something ordered from an infomercial, whether it's the Ronco Rotisserie or Victoria Principal's skincare.
You may think of these often annoying programs as "trash TV", but think again. Did you realize that they use many of the exact same strategies that we should?
Now, I don't mean you need to scream at your customers or flash "$19.95" in blinking digits on your website! Those are gimmicks.
But what most people don't realize is that many of the strategies that sell the kitchen doohickey gadget are the same ones that can also sell your products and programs.
Here are 7 of my favorites:
1. They grab your attention.
Infomercials air on the most challenging medium there is out there: television. You're just a second away from your prospect clicking their remote to the next channel. So they do their best to get your attention right away and KEEP it for as long as possible.
That's why infomercials give bold statements and emphasize how this doohickey will change your life. You should do this too -- stop beating around the bush and make it clear to your prospects how your products and services will change *their* lives!
2. They give tons of real-life testimonials.
You'll see that TV infomercials have evolved greatly since years ago. It used to be one or two people talking to a camera for the entire time. These days most typical 30 minute spots are over 80% customer testimonials! And that's for good reason... they are the hands-down BEST way to gain instant credibility.
A great example is for one of those home exercise machines. I noticed years ago they just showed the super-ripped guy using it on the infomercial. Now they show that guy, PLUS dozens of before and after testimonials from real-life guys with beer bellies and real jobs who used the product with success. That was a great move on their part, because c'mon, we never really believed that super-ripped guy looked like that from using it just 30 minutes, 3 times a week!
3. They use personalities.
The most successful infomercials now use celebrity guest hosts. They know this gets people's attention more than practically anything out there. Pro Activ uses Jessica Simpson. Youthful Essence (a skincare product women love) uses Susan Lucci. Even NutriSystem is now using Dan Marino in their commercials to target men.
You can do the same in your marketing. You can either hire a star, or even better, make YOURSELF the celebrity... by sharing stories, being personal, and having fun with your market.
4. They give an irresistible offer.
It's rare these days to see an infomercial asking for you to pay for something in full. You'll mostly see things like "3 payments of $19.95" or "4 payments of $39.95". Why? Cash-crunched Americans are always more concerned about cash flow than the total price. They'll even happily pay much MORE in the end in order to gain a lower monthly payment!
You can do the same. Offer a payment plan for your products, courses, workshops, and coaching. You'll be AMAZED at the increased response, and it's easy to do with marketing-savvy shopping cart systems.
5. They give a strong call-to-action NOW.
These folks know that as soon as you change the channel, you're going to forget about their product. So they make it very urgent that you pick up the phone and call them now or visit their website and order. They usually say something like "If you call in the next 10 minutes you also get..." and they list a few great bonuses.
This isn't just specific to TV. Everyone would rather put off ANY decision these days, we're all so busy and overwhelmed! So you need to give people a good REASON to act now, whether it's a discount that expires, a payment plan that expires, a limited number of products or seats, a special bonus... you get the idea.
6. They sell on continuity.
What's "continuity"? It's when you make ONE sale that results in multiple charges over and over. For example, because my Wife Rosie's friends have been raving about I.D. Bare Minerals natural makeup, she recently ordered a kit from their infomercial. Now, every 2 months, she receive a fresh supply in the mail, and my card is charged again. She love's it because she doesn't have to remember to reorder. They love it because they only had to make ONE sale, and how they've got me as a customer forever until I cancel!
Hear me now... continuity will change your life! Consider how you can use this principle in your business. Could you convert some of your current offerings into a monthly membership? 7. They repeat themselves. And repeat themselves.
And repeat themselves again! Smart marketers know it takes an average of 9 TIMES for someone to see/hear your message BEFORE they will even consider purchasing! That goes for you too. So many of my clients complain that advertising doesn't work when they only ran one ad ONCE. Or published ONE newsletter and it didn't get them results.
Remember it's the ongoing exposure and repetition that breeds familiarity and trust with your prospects! And that leads to more sales than you've ever imagined.
Over the past 15 years I've immersed myself in learning. Because my business is marketing, I have attended many and spoken at marketing seminars when I was younger. But I also make plenty of time to read books, attend seminars, and listen to audio programs on personal development as well.

You should actually work harder on yourself than you do on your business (or job). I first learned that from Jim Rohn, whom some call the father of personal development. There are three success principles I've learned over the years that I wanted to share with you. I call them my "a-has" because they put my attention on areas I'd never thought of. And following these guidelines has helped me skyrocket my business.
1. You are the average of the five PEOPLE you hang around the most.
When I first heard this quote from Jim, it struck a big nerve in me. Robert Allen says something similar, that your bank account balance is typically the average of the five people you hang around the most. (Yikes!)
I realized I needed to surround myself with people whom I wanted to be like. I still love my old friends, but I make a specific effort to be around people who take risks, think big, and talk about great ideas instead of the latest celebrity gossip, the price of gas, or how much they hate their clients.
What first opened up my circle of influence was attending seminars. I continually go to seminars on marketing, business, and personal development. There are so many great seminars going on every month all around the country, at all price points. You have no excuse not to get out there and meet people who are playing big!
2. Your HABITS create your future (and your fortune).
I like to talk a lot about this. Your daily habits create your long-term results. Your habits today will determine your outcomes tomorrow. If you want to be a millionaire, you've got to have millionaire habits. If you want to be a great leader, you must have the habits of a great leader. If you want to get in shape, you've got to have the habits of a fit person.
What new habit can YOU put into place right away?
I wanted to put into place a millionaire habit. Because I detest budgets (and enjoy spending), I needed an easy way to save money. So now I have a set percentage of my inflow automatically go into a savings account that I don't touch.
3. Make sure your ENVIRONMENT supports you in playing big.
A few years ago I had the chance to hear a dynamic woman named Artemis Limpert speak. In her talk, she pointed out that when you have a pet fish that's sick, you treat the water -- NOT the fish.
Your success depends more on your environment than you know, but it's extremely important that you give yourself an environment that supports you at the level you want to BE at. (Note that I did NOT say the level you are at now!)
There are 3 areas of your environment you should pay close attention to:
First, your physical environment. Do you love your office? Do you have enough space to work and plan? Are you surrounded by attractive things? Do you have a nice view or at least a beautiful piece of art to look at? I paid a pretty penny for my condo, but I can't tell you how inspiring it is every day to look out at the all the golfers or take a short walk or drive to my peaceful ocean, sailboats, blue sky, and the sand. It fuels me.
But you don't have to spend a lot of money on your environment. Little touches like candles, flowers, music you love, and photos of friends and family can go a long way. (Even if your office is the kitchen table!)
Second, your emotional environment. Are you getting the support you need from your family and friends? It's up to YOU to ask for what you need.
If they cannot provide it, find a Mentor or coach, a mastermind, or a support group. I find it wonderful to have our Fast Track mastermind group for support. I can bounce ideas off them, ask for help with problem solving, share my victories, and sometimes just vent!
Third, your intellectual environment. Jim Rohn says, "Are you feeding your brain protein every day, or are you just giving it candy?" Most Americans sustain their brains solely on candy - that is, useless television shows, news, and gossip. Are you stimulating yourself with big ideas and new learning? Again, check out a seminar, take a Veretekk class, or buy some books or audio programs. (I love listening to programs on CD or iPod, so I can learn while taking a walk or driving my car or relaxing on a plane.)
REMEMBER, "THE MORE YOU LEARN THE MORE YOU LEARN"
Remember - 97% of the people marketing today are full of excuses and live their lives thru tragedy and self created disappointment!

In fact, I've arrived at six different reasons why we all seem to procrastinate. Here they are, along with what you can learn from (and do for) each.
Reason 1: You are procrastinating because you don't enjoy the entire task or job.
Solution: One of my Mentors told me several years ago that if I didn't like doing something, I should "delete it, delegate it, or automate it." What a great way to look at things! I'm a big fan of ONLY doing tasks I enjoy or am good at. The rest I outsource to people who are good at it and/or enjoy it.
Reason 2: You are procrastinating because you don't enjoy a PART of the entire task or job.
Solution: If you're putting off a whole project just because there's one part you don't want to do, figure out how you can get away without doing that part. Again, delete it, delegate it, or automate it.
Reason 3: You are procrastinating because you don't know how to handle the task or job.
Solution: The answer will not drop in your lap. Get help -- a Mentor to teach you how, a book or home study course to show you how, or even better, outsource it to someone who can just do it for you.
Reason 4: You are procrastinating because you simply can't find the time.
Solution: Schedule future time to do it, or get rid of other tasks to create the time you need. If you still can't do this, then you need to find someone to do it for you.
Reason 5: You are procrastinating because you feel stuck.
Solution: You may just need to get momentum going. Give yourself permission to do just one small part of the project only. Or do the easiest part first. (That's how I started putting together my entire Mentoring course.) This usually creates momentum, and you end up doing a lot more than you intended to!
Reason 6: You are procrastinating because you don't really want to do what you thought you should do.
Solution: This means you may have the wrong objective or strategy in the first place! Is this something you really want to do, or do you just think you SHOULD do it? Or is it an old goal that doesn't fit you or your business anymore? Your answer may surprise you. Let the goal go for awhile and see what happens. : )
Start Paying Attention!
Once you start paying attention to which activities you put off regularly, you'll know sooner when to be stricter with yourself or find help to get those tasks accomplished in a more timely manner.
So take a minute and make your list right now of what marketing tasks you've been putting off! Don't beat yourself up about it, just make a note and figure out how to get them done. (Or delete them and find an alternative to help you reach the same goal.)

1) Be there for your family. This is frequently the number one reason for starting a business. Being there for your children, your spouse, or your aging parents... it's so important.
2) Make yourself wealthy. Why would you continue to work on making someone else wealthy when you can use all that hard work toward your own future?
3) Choose your own hours. Work when you want, where you want, for as long as you want. It doesn't get any better than this!
4) Write your own paychecks. You don't ever have to ask for a raise. You work for it. If you need more lncome, you know exactly what you need to do to get it.
5) Tax Benefits. You'll save thousands in lncome taxes when you know what you can deduct as business expenses. Check with your accountant!
6) No Commute. Actually, you will have a commute - from your bedroom to your home office (which may even be in your bedroom!). The average working American wastes hours per day sitting in traffic on the way to and from work. No more!

You have to give in order to get. If you want people to offer up their email address, you`re going to have to offer up an incentive. Nothing works better than something that`s complimentary (you spell that F-R-E-E). You can give away no-cost reports, books, software, or even sample pages of a book.

=> Wise Way #2 - USE POP-UPS
Pop-ups are one of the most common methods you can use to capture email addresses and build your email list quickly and with ease. Simply construct a web page or blog containing code for a form and set the page to open (pop up) when visitors ENTER OR EXIT your site.
Make sure the pop-up offer is something that`s valuable enough to motivate visitors to take time to give you their contact information. Your offer can be a complimentary report, download, or e-book that arrives instantly through your autoresponder to their email inbox when they give you their email.

=> Wise Way #3 - USE POSTCARDS
If you have a mailing list that contains snail mail (street) addresses, convert it into an email list by sending out a postcard and inviting people to VISIT YOUR WEBSITE to receive a gift of some kind -- a report, a discount coupon, etc. Visitors don`t have to pay in order to receive their gifts, they simply need to enter an email address.
-A Word to the Wise from the U.S. Post Office: Postage is much less expensive for a postcard than a standard-size letter. (Not only are they economical, postcards are more likely to get your message across since the consumer doesn`t have to open an envelope.)
=> Wise Way #4 - SUBSCRIBER BOX ON EVERY PAGE
This is a clever trick that so many people overlook. Put a RESPONSE FORM ON EVERY PAGE of your website offering a newsletter or other freebie. This will increase the number of email addresses you capture exponentially

Why? When search engines index the pages of your website, a visitor may come directly to a page other than your home page. If you only have a subscriber box on your home page, you`re missing the boat, not to mention the thousands of visitors who bypass your homepage.

Contests very often prove to be a good way to generate traffic and buzz for your business. Create a contest and put a form on your site or in a pop-up box. The entry "fee" is their email address.
-Word to the Wise: Not all the people who sign up for your contest are good prospects. Many are just contest "junkies" -- people who are only looking for freebies and have no intention of buying a product or service.
-Warning to the Wise: If your prizes are cash or large-ticket items, you should be sure to check with local agencies to make sure you`re not violating any contest laws.

Most people give their website link when they place solo ads, ezine ads, or other marketing messages. To be one step ahead of the game in collecting email addresses, LIST YOUR AUTORESPONDER ADDRESS instead of your URL. This way you can capture email address and funnel them into your follow-up sales letters.

In today`s newsletter, you`re going to learn how the APPEARANCE of your email message affects the way your prospects feel about you and what you have to offer.
It`s an old, old saying, but it`s true: you only have one chance to make a good first impression. And in email, the first impression is always visual -- a consumer LOOKS/SEES before he/she READS.
Imagine walking by a grotesquely garish storefront with all kinds of things hanging off the front porch, every floor painted a different color, and odd music playing through loudspeakers. Would you want to walk in the front door? No way! You`d assume that the owner is a kook, at best, or a deranged axe murderer, at worst.
Did you ever have an ugly looking email land in your mailbox? You know what I`m talking about: an orange background and yellow borders, multi-colored text in all sizes from gigantic to microscopic, a message that looks like it was created by a crazed six-year-old? If you did, I bet you didn`t feel the urge to read it. You probably just wanted to delete it as quickly as possible.
=> PUT OUT THE WELCOME MAT
You want your email message to be friendly and inviting, not bizarre and scary. The suggestions below -- and they`re just suggestions, not hard and fast rules -- will go a long way towards making recipients` eyes say "come on in!" to your message.
=> DO`s and DON`Ts FOR ATTRACTIVE EMAILS
-DON`T use COLOR fonts in your message. (Leave that to junior high girls who want to write about Britney and Justin)
-DO use BLACK TEXT ON A WHITE BACKGROUND. (When you`re "speaking" in black-and-white, people will give their full attention to your message without being distracted by your color scheme.)
-DON`T use UNCOMMON FONTS. (If someone`s system doesn`t recognize the font you`ve selected, they could see gibberish
instead of your brilliant message).
-DO use the email marketers` FAVORITE FONTS: Arial, Times New Roman, and Courier New
And please.
-DON`T use flashing buttons or banners in your email! (Your prospects have undoubtedly gotten their fill of "bells and whistles" when they`ve surfed the Internet. They don`t need more from you.)
=> GET HYPER" WITH EMAIL HYPERLINKS
An "email hyperlink" is just techno-talk for a link in your email to a website, or email address. Sounds simple enough, and it is -- unless you try to contact a prospect on AOL who may not be able to receive "clickable" links.
Don`t worry. There`s a "Fix" for this: simply type mailto: in front of your email address (no space in between, and include the : )
